About us ……….Bruce & Sue Winfield

of Aussie Flower People

Bruce & Sue Winfield have an extensive background in Australian Native Flowers, in particular Grampians Thryptomene Calycina, an endemic flower from their local area.

Bruce was born in the Laharum area and is a 4th generation Australian native cut flower grower.

Since their marriage in 1990, Sue has been heavily involved in the native plant industry, working with Bruce to develop their passion for Australian natives.

After the retirement of Bruce’s parents in late 2001, Bruce and Sue purchased the family cut flower growing business and they now own and manage over 208 hectares of beautiful Australian Natives at the base of the Grampians. This business is known as Winnel Ausnative Flora. All cut flower product grown is sold exclusively to Lorena (Bruce’s sister) and Colin Flack at Big Spring Mount Pty Ltd for processing to Australian and Overseas markets.

Over 54 different varieties of cut flower are grown on their property and include thryptomene calycina, boronia, leptospermum, Geraldton wax, gum and wattle varieties.

After experiencing difficulty in obtaining quality new plant material for replanting, Bruce & Sue diversified in 2004 to open a wholesale nursery —Aussie Flower People. They not only supply Winnel Ausnative Flora with all their replanting varieties but also propagate other Grampians varieties for revegetation purposes. Aussie Flower People is currently a wholesale nursery but is planning to open to the public in the near future. Being situated in a high tourist area the opportunity is there to promote the beauty of Australian Natives to overseas and local visitors.

Early in 2007, Bruce & Sue diversified further by purchasing Wimmera Oasis Garden Centre in the heart of Horsham. Wimmera Oasis Garden Centre was established in the mid 1990’s and continues to grow in product range and accessories each year.

Aussie Flower People are proud to supply Wimmera Oasis Garden Centre and other retail nurseries, with Australian Native plant varieties and Australian garden plant favourites.
